Since 2010, Poler has been bridging the gap between action sports and traditional outdoor activities. Their goal is to make fun and practical outdoor gear for everyone. Their story starts with a man named Benji Wagner. He loved being outside and he professionally shot advertising material for outdoor companies. He knew the industry was full of great products, but he felt that no company related to a younger audience authentically.
Wagner and two partners decided to create Poler Stuff, which sold affordable camping and travel gear aimed at urban adventurers. They funded the startup themselves and began by working out of their homes, developing tents, T-Shirts, and bags. Their goal was to inspire people to embrace outdoor activities throughout daily life. After increasing sales and adding employees, Poler opened its storefront in Portland in the Pearl District.
Poler became widely known in Portland, when you walked down any given street, you could probably see someone wearing a Poler beanie or carrying a Poler backpack. At the end of 2018, Poler filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and closed, posting on Instagram that they would be back in 2019. For almost the whole year they were silent. No more Poler gear, the store was dark, and their Instagram had nothing new.
On December 12, 2019, they emailed the world saying they were back. They had new gear online, the store opened back up, and their Instagram became active again. Poler is taking a new stance this time around, creating fewer products, focusing on top quality.
Portland is excited to have Poler back and to see what amazing products they produce this time around. Head into Poler to grab one of their famous beanies for yourself, or shop online. Support this local small business in their return to the city!
