Eb & Bean In Portland

In Portland, it doesn’t need to be warm to get your ice cream fix. People seem to be eating ice cream no matter if it’s 90 degrees during Portland summers or pouring rain during the long months of Portland winter. There are a variety of great ice cream shops around the city, but we’ve been loving the sweet frozen treat that is Eb & Bean!

Five years ago, Elizabeth knew a better-frozen yogurt experience could be developed, so she opened Eb & Bean. Her kids found a great amount of joy in frozen treats, and she has a passion for the way ice cream unites us and can be used as a culinary experiment. She also knew that the Pacific Northwest held a bounty of delicious ingredients.

When Elizabeth’s family was transferred to Paris for work, she enrolled in the pastry program at the Bellouet Conseil, and trained with Martine Lambert, the queen of French ice cream. After moving back to Portland, she was feeling inspired by all she learned. When pregnant with her son she wanted soft serve, but without the artificial ingredients that come along with it. She went to a regular frozen yogurt shop and thought that it would be great if someone created a new kind of frozen yogurt shop using seasonal flavors, organic dairy and non-dairy options with amazing local toppings that tasted delicious.

She ended up being the one to create this frozen yogurt shop in June of 2014, and called it Eb & Bean after her kids, Eben and Sabine. Today, there are three Eb and Bean locations that serve their neighbors and communities. Eb & Bean serves organic, probiotic-rich dairy and non-dairy yogurt that tastes like soft-serve ice cream. Their frequent rotating flavors made in-house can be topped with their dozens of local and handcrafted toppings. The yogurt contains no artificial sweeteners, flavors, preservatives, corn syrup, or GMOs.

Their flavors include the standard vanilla bean and chocolate, then two rotating dairy flavors, and 4 rotating non-dairy flavors. All are gluten-free and full of love. Toppings include things like Tombumble Crumble, vegan & gluten-free Sift cookie dough, scratch waffle cones, cacao nibs with Jacobsen salt, a variety of non-dairy magic shell options, and so much more.

Next time you are craving a sweet frozen treat, head to Eb & Bean to support local and get the absolute best and seasonal decadent creation! The options are endless at Eb & Bean!
