Portland has an abundance of coffee shops. Sometimes it seems as if there is a new one opening every week! We are lucky to be surrounded by beautiful coffee shops and delicious coffee. It is hard to choose the best, so let's talk about some of the great ones! First up is Nossa Familia.
Nossa Familia has three coffee shops in the Portland area and one in Downtown LA. Nossa Familia was founded in Portland by Brazilian native Augusto Carneiro. Augusto’s family has been growing coffee in Brazil since the 1980s, and he started Nossa Familia to bring the family’s coffee to Portland. Nossa Familia focuses on delivering farm-direct coffee and creating local and global relationships. Through every step of their company, they aim to foster community and are dedicated to being socially responsible. They are a sustainable company and strive to be transparent with their customers.
The Nossa Familia Seven Corners Cafe opened in August of 2018 in the Ladd’s Addition neighborhood. It is on the bottom floor of the Seven Corners Collaborative which is a nonprofit hub that provides access to crucial disability services. This cafe is has a calming aesthetic with many windows that create a bright and open space. Greenery is hung throughout and the design is simple yet beautiful.
The aesthetic is inspired by the blue, white, and terracotta farmhouses of Augusto’s family coffee farms in Brazil. The cafe is on the way to becoming Zero Waste and Carbon Neutral. Nossa Familia Seven Corners is a great place to grab a quick coffee or tea drink or get work done. There are a variety of electronic sit/stand desks, and the rolling stools are ergonomically designed. There isn’t a more comfortable place to bring your computer and set up shop for a while!
The employees are positive and friendly and are accommodating and helpful. Bring your own cup and get 25 cents off your drink. If you choose to use their cups, you will pay an extra 25 cents. They offer house-made syrups, alternative milks, and house-made espresso whip cream. They have an extensive list of specialties including Cafezinho, a traditional Brazilian drink with espresso, hot water, and raw sugar, the Bee Sting Latte with honey and spices, and more! Hungry? Grab one of their assorted pastries from local Pearl Bakery, a bagel from Bowery Bagels, Bob’s Red Mill oats, or gluten-free and vegan cheesecakes from Rawdacious!
