Walking into Never is like an explosion of color and happiness. This is not your typical coffee shop, and they don’t serve your typical coffee drinks.
Never Coffee Lab started on SE Belmont next to Slappy Cakes. Up until just a month ago, this was the only location. In November Never opened their second location on SW 12th. Since its beginning in 2016, Never has left an impression on the city with its specialty coffee drinks and bags of beans. Yes, you can get a normal latte, but you can also get a latte made with rose water, one made with sweet fennel seed and black licorice, caramel and Jacobsen Sea Salt, and even a matcha drink with tart cherries that tastes like cereal bowl milk. And that’s not even all of them. The names are even better, Rich Kid, Midnight Oil, Holy Grail, you can drink your coffee and have fun while ordering it too!
Never serves their drinks in beautiful ceramics if you drink your coffee there, or you can take it to go. When at the new SW location you can walk around the Pearl District with your coffee or take it on a walk to Central Downtown which is just a short walk away. Never likes to say their WiFi is expensive, and well, that’s because their drinks are expensive, and they know it. Though there are certain things worth paying the extra few dollars for, and Never coffee is one of them.
If the taste isn’t enough, it is worth it to grab a drink for the incredibly fun and beautiful interior. The bright walls, colorful menu, carved out shelves, little plants, and dainty tables make you want to sit and stay awhile. Never could be one of the most Instagrammed coffee shops, and this new SW location is no exception.
The bags of whole beans at Never follow the trend of colorful and upbeat. Each type of beans is packaged in a vibrant colored with black graphics of items like animals and plants. Don’t live in Portland? Never roasts their coffee every Monday and ship it on Tuesdays. You can even subscribe so you never run out of Never!
